Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing, was a prolific writer. Today, writing is a neglected area of professional development for most nurses. The reasons for this may be many including lack of time, lack of understanding of the publishing process, and a lack of comfort with writing skills. However, it is important for nurses to write for both personal and professional reasons as it is a means to share information, increase knowledge, and achieve recognition. The benefits of writing greatly outweigh such fears.

Saving Youth From Sudden Cardiac Death

Incidences of pediatric sudden cardiac death, or SCD, seem to occur more and more frequently. We hear of instances in the news at youth baseball games and high school sporting events across the country. The problem has garnered so much attention that New Jersey's Saint Barnabas Health Care System recently hosted the conference "Saving Young Lives," devoted to creating awareness about pediatric SCD.
